Safety is our highest priority at Today’s Life Schools & Childcare. Today’s Life is licensed by the State of Minnesota, and our caring teachers are held at a high standard and are expected to exceed the qualification set by state law. In addition, all teachers are required to have degrees in child development, a valid CDA, or a degree in early childhood education.
All of our quality staff members are fingerprinted and must pass a background check every two years. Our childcare providers receive training in first aid every three years and CPR every two years, as well as training in Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) on a yearly basis. Each child development teacher goes through a full orientation and a two-week basic training program upon being hired. In addition, each teacher receives the required amount of in-service training every year to stay current on early childhood learning standards. Today’s Life carries liability insurance for each child in attendance, and field trips are always in-house.
As required by the state of Minnesota, Today’s Life annually reviews our risk reduction plan that identifies the general risks to children served by our center. We establish specific policies and procedures that minimize identified risks and trains staff on the procedures. As a parent of a child at Today’s Life, you have access to view our plan upon request.
Today’s Life conducts daily maintenance checks on all equipment and supplies, and cribs are inspected once a month. Our fenced, outdoor playground area is located on-site. The playground is checked for safety on a daily basis, and children are educated on how to safely use all of the equipment. Staff members position themselves so that they can supervise the children on all areas of the playground while respecting the staff to child ratio at all times.
Each parent is required to sign in their children each morning at drop-off and again at pickup. Any adults, other than the parents, who are picking up a child are required to show a valid Minnesota State ID and must be previously authorized by the parents.
Today’s Life follows the health guidelines of the State of Minnesota. If a child exhibits symptoms that suggest the presence of a communicable disease, they are to remain home for the day. Full guidelines on sickness can be found in our handbook that parents receive upon enrollment.
We have monthly evacuation drills to our designated shelter area to prepare children for emergencies such as fires or tornadoes. A fire system automatically closes fire doors as soon as the alarm goes off, and the children are well versed in advance about what they should do in that scenario.
If you have a question, never hesitate to ask a teacher or the center’s director. There is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to the safety of your child.
